- On 20 June 1670, he and John Clarke were chosen by the Assembly as agents to go to London to vindicate the charter of Rhode Island before Charles II [the charter entrusted to the 2nd Earl of Warwich to secure by his father John Green, John Clarke and Samuel Gorton some 27 years earlier] and to “redeem the same from the injurious violations thereof by the colony of Connecticut.”
- In 1690, John drafted the colony's official letter of goodwill to King Wiliiam III and Queen Mary.
