Notes
- In his first World War I Attestation paper, James lists his birth as “21 August 1886 in Buffalo, New York” whereas in his second Attestations paper he lists it as “21 August 1889 in Dunnville, Ontario”. See this link. This discrepancy (in dates at least) may arise because in 1915 (when he first enlisted) he just turned 16 years old and may have been too young to enlist.
