Notes

Note that in the 1861 census record, Arnold and Ann Green had another family (the Whites) and several non-family members living with them (Thomas Penny, Lucinda Posey, Henry Muff and Sandy Helcome). This fact coupled to the facts that all of these people were either black or mixed and that it was before the American Civil War, suggests that some may have been people escaping the States through the underground railway.
Given the fact that Ann's age when she had the three children listed in the 1861 census would have been 62, 63 and 64 (respectively), suggests that perhaps Ann and Arnold were in fact the grandparents and not the parents of these children.
