- Note that although the 1861 census states that Mary was born in the United States, all subsequent census records report her birth in Ontario, Canada.
- Mary Jane died of Consumption (tuburculosis), which she had for a year. Her death registry does not provide a death date, but states that she was 15 years, 8 months and 4 days old.
